CHALLENGE
The project involved constructing evaporation ponds for potash salt extraction. The challenge was to ensure that the ponds were watertight above the ground level to prevent the loss of valuable brine and protect the surrounding environment from contamination.
GROUND CONDITIONS
The site featured sandy soils with high permeability and deeper soft clay layers. Ecoseal sheet piles provided the necessary watertightness to prevent leakage above impermeable clay layer and ensure the efficient operation of the evaporation ponds.
SOLUTION
Ecoseal vinyl sheet piles were used to construct the walls of the evaporation ponds. The sheet piles were installed to a depth of 16 feet, creating an impermeable barrier that retained the lithium brine within the ponds. The installation process involved driving the sheet piles into the ground using an excavator bucket. In total, 645 800 ft2 of Ecoseal sheet piles were used.
