Challenge
The rapid urban development in some districts of Kraków led to frequent flooding issues. The challenge was to improve flood protection and prevent water from breaching residential areas during heavy rains.

Ground Conditions
The embankment was composed of a mix of weak and varied soils, including loose materials and sandbags that had been used over the years. The use of Ecoseal sheet piles with integrated gaskets ensured a watertight barrier in these challenging conditions.

Solution
Ecoseal vinyl sheet piles were installed along the river embankment, extending 4 feet above ground level and 7 feet below ground. The sheet piles were driven into the diverse and weak soil of the embankment, which consisted of accumulated materials and sandbags. This solution provided an effective flood barrier, enhancing the water retention capacity of the river.
